It's common use to adjust the zoom before taking a picture, however there is particular technique that requires the photographer to operate it while executing the shot. At first select mode Shutter-priority and then set time around 1 second or longer. The camera has to be set still so use a tripod or any solid surface that can give you a clear view of the picture; press the button with one hand while with the other action the zoom. You'll get an interesting vortex effect .
